Koi

This is the completed work. The first picture shows a koi. Progressively, through the process of dilution, it becomes a fish, which could mean any breed of fish. The fourth picture from the top would shows an indexic representation of the fish.

Fish

This is a random thought during lecture. I'll probably be working on the theme of fish for my next assignment.

Representation Technique 1

This is a wall clock. It is distilled into a simplier version progressively. The third picture would be an indexic representation of an object that tells time, which could be a hand watch, grandfather clock etc... The last picture shows the final stage in the dilution process, what left behind is a minute and an hour hand.

Me Myself and I

This is the completed assignment.

Sports Sketch (Alvin)

This picture seeks to represent my passion for sports. The word "sports" encompasses too large a category, hence I thought it would be approprite to narrow it down to a theme that is more specific. I chose "ballgames". Similar to the beach drawing, I feel that no one ball game, or merely the juxtaposition of different balls (golf, basketball, tennisball etc...) could convey the message. With this in mind, I included the equipment which is used for playing ball games too. These include hockey stick and a squash racket. I hope that a more "holistic" feel of ball games could be communicated to the viewers, and that they can participate actively when viewing my completed artwork by thinking and looking beyond that of sports equipment and balls... To perhaps something more abstract like the "spirit of playing sport", that this picture reminded them the time when they won a sports competition, the "feeling of victory"... Or simply "the joy of playing sports". This theme is easier to design than the beach, given the versatility of balls and sports equipment to form different alphabets. Similar to the beach artwork, I sketched it in pencil and subsequently copied it into my computer and touched it up with freehand software.

Beach Sketch (Chia)

I'v always like the beach-- the sun, sand, freedom of the sea, beautiful people, sound of the wave, coconut trees, tanning chairs, life guards, families, friends, sandcastle, etc etc.. and the list continues. Hence, i feel that using an object to represent my love for the beach is an underrepresentation. As such, I incorporated many elements, which I feel should be present-- to create as much as possible, a "holistic" feel of the beach. Upon looking at my completed design, I hope viewers will feel that they've been transported to their favourite beach. Through the artwork, I hope to portray my personality-- the vibrant and sunny side of me. The difficulty of this assignment is to shape the elements into my name. My art work was executed in pencil, which was then transferred into my computer and touched up using freehand software. I hope that the pictures communicate beyond the few elements which I've included and that to do so, viewers have to participate actively by letting their imagination flow.

Spongebob (alvin)

This is for practice sake. There are so many things which I like, many of which I cannot translate into picture beacuse I am really bad with drawings... Animals, cartoons, food, chocolate, models, fashion, scenery, beach, flowers etc etc... So much stuff...

The process of shaping my drawings into alphabets is even more challenging.

Below is Spongebob. This is a cartoon character which I really like. The yellow coloured sponge makes one feel really vibrant and fresh... A piece of sponge is also really versatile in the sense that it can be compressed into different shapes to form various alphabets.
